Everyone knows about California’s legendary Pacific Coast Highway, but to do they know that San Luis Obispo County is at the heart of the route? And that SLO CAL not only has charming beach towns, but so much more on the other side of the PCH? We didn’t think so, that’s why we partnered with the Visit SLO CAL to craft a two-week road trip and editorial campaign to expose more travelers to the little-known wonders of the Central Coast. Through vivid storytelling, videos, photos, and social media conversations, our #VisitSLOCAL content reached 567,793 people and prompted 59,423 adoring interactions.
Below is a sampling of the 127 pieces of content we created for Visit SLO CAL across HoneyTrek’s website and social media platforms (with over 300,000 followers).

Full of beautiful photography, engaging prose, and handy resources, our 3,100-word blog highlights nine towns across the county and their best places to stay, eat, sip, hike, shop, volunteer, and connect with local culture. More than a travel guide, this blog gets to the heart of what makes SLO CAL one of the happiest and healthiest places on Earth, as proven by the Nat Geo Blue Zones and our first-hand experiences.

One of the coolest art installations, scratch that— art experiences we've ever had: @BruceMunroStudio's #FieldOfLight. Spread across 15 acres, 58,000 colored lights blanket the hills like an electric super bloom. It opens to the world tonight at @SensorioPaso and runs until January 2020. Get yourself to @PasoRobles! #SLOCAL #Sponsored @SLOCAL

WOW! Got a sneak peek @Bruce_Munro's #FieldOfLight installation: 58,000 bulbs blanketing 15 acres. Seeing the rainbow of lights roll across the hills, gnarly tree silhouettes on the horizon & a full moon rising was unreal! @SensorioPaso 'til Jan 2020, don't miss it! #Spon #SLOCAL pic.twitter.com/rU59tPLLnC

Are we in the Galapagos right now? Did we take a boat for days to reach such an elephant seal rookery? Nope, thousands of blubbery, barking, cuddling seals are chillin just off the Pacific Coast Highway. San Simeon, CA has the only elephant seal rookery in the world that you can walk up to and safely view them in close range–for free, any day of the year. As you roll over the county line into #SLOCAL, they are the ultimate welcoming committee. @VisitSanSimeon #Sponsored @SLOCAL
Vintage car lovers & happy campers, you gotta check out the annual #PismoVintageTrailerRally @PCVRVR. Over 300 Airstreams, Spartans, Scouts, even Carnation Milk Trucks were decked out in their mid-century best for a throw-back #MyPismoBeach weekend. #SLOCAL #Sponsored @VisitSLOC pic.twitter.com/vsx6Gpixbj

A mile hike straight up Sycamore Crest Trail led to panoramic views of the San Luis Obispo Bay, sweeping coastline, wine country, cute beach towns, and dunes in the distance. As if the hike wasn't rewarding enough, there was a swing at the top! And the view gets even better when you're pumping your legs, soaring between the trees, and giggling the whole time. #SLOCAL #Sponsored @SLOCAL
When in wine country, stay at a vineyard. In #PasoRobles, you’ve gotta stay at @AllegrettoVR. We love their global twist on an Italian villa, interactive art (hello sonic labyrinth!), lovely estate wine & vine views from our bedroom! #SLOCAL #sponsored #AllegrettoVR Buon viaggio! pic.twitter.com/EW9WDQNlJM

When in California, the missions are a must! Dating back to 1769, they boast the state's oldest architecture with #SLOCAL's Mission San Miguel as the best example of its original layout and buildings. Loved this #NationalHistoricLandmark! #VisitCalifornia #Sponsored @SLOCAL pic.twitter.com/ZRv4zSkq3r

Wouldn't have thought to drive our 7000lb camper on a historic wooden pier, but that’s how you get to #OldePortInn. Behind the weathered facade of this working-dock is an upscale restaurant w/ panoramic views & glass-bottom tables to watch your fish swim by. #Sponsored @VisitSLOC pic.twitter.com/fnQDBJTpdb

Ziplining over a vineyard that ends at a wine tasting? Sign us up! We zipped @MargaritaAdvent's six lines between mountains and vines–crazy fun! Plus, they were so dialed in; if you don't quite reach the next platform, a robot comes to get you lol. #SLOCAL #Sponsored @VisitSLOC pic.twitter.com/yumPolFMeI
