hotel room workouts
IHG invited us to be their guest at EVEN Hotels and create this sponsored post. The views expressed are 100% HoneyTrek.

The last time we had a gym membership was December 2011. When we started the HoneyTrek nearly five years ago our regular diet and exercise routine were thrown out the plane window and we’ve had to get creative to stay in shape. Hotel rooms have become our Bally Total Fitness with desk chairs, water carafes, bananas, and oriental rugs all used as ad-hoc dumbbells and yoga mats. We’ve stayed in over 300 hotels, many with state-of-the art gyms and spas, but none have made keeping healthy as easy as EVEN Hotels. We recently experienced InterContinental Hotels Group’s newest line, while speaking at the New York Travel Festival, and we were beyond excited to find a hotel that understands health-conscious traveler like us!

Even Hotels common rooms

We arrived to their W. 35th St. location in Times Square South, and left the hustle and bustle of New York City at the door. The air smelled of lemongrass and walls were covered with living plants, sand designs, and stacking stones. The manager Melissa offered us a glass of fruit-infused water and a quick tour. She showed us their impressive gym (massive by NYC standards), a recreation room complete with ping-pong and foosball, and their healthy restaurant, Cork & Kale. “Let us know if you need anything at all,” she said “and if you’d like to take a jog around the city, our manager leads group runs every morning.” A local-tour-meets-workout…love it!

Even Hotel room ammenties

We entered our room and it felt modern, cheery, and ahhhhh-inducing. Through our sheer-leaf print curtains we had classic New York city views: glimpses of the Hudson River, Art-Deco buildings capped with water towers, and the one-and-only neon “New Yorker” sign. We spun the dial on the rainbow remote control and realized we could change the headboard and under-bed lighting to suit our mood…how fun is that? When it came time for a shower, we had four-scents of soap to choose from and a vanity that a makeup artist would be proud to use.

Even Hotel Room

We woke up in the morning, and even though we were up late preparing for our long-term travel talk, we had no excuse not to work out. The room came with a core ball, yoga mat and blocks, and an adjustable pole with resistance bands…exactly what we’d been missing on all these hotel stays! For extra motivation, there was a TV with 15+ channels of trainer-led workouts and a book with routines and tips. We loved choosing our style of workout based on our mood and the amount of time we had, so even if we could only spare 10 minutes we could start the day on the right foot.

Even Hotels Dining

Toned, stretched, and showered, we’d head down for a power breakfast. Forget bacon and eggs, we had homemade Tropical Granola and Revolution Smoothies with kale, blueberries, almond milk, apple juice and a drizzle of agave nectar. After our day at the tradeshow, we relaxed at the bar with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, veggie burger sliders (a new variety each day) and a Spinach Nicoise Salad. For vegans and vegetarians it couldn’t have been more perfect, but even a carnivore will love Cork & Kale.
IHG invited us to check out their new Even Hotel though regardless of that partnership we would say hands-down this is one of the best places in all of New York City for health-conscious and budget-minded travelers. Depending on the day of the week, rooms can be had for under $200, and it goes without saying–that’s crazy inexpensive for Times Square. We adored our stay and are excited to hear that more EVEN properties with this much-needed health and wellness concept, are slated to open around The States. Until then we’ll keep bench-pressing coffee tables, curling bags of citrus, and dreaming of EVEN Hotels.

    1. Thanks so much. It was fun to think about all the funny things we do to workout and to find a hotel that made our typical in-room workout routines so much more civilized!

  1. Can’t say I’m at the same level of physical fitness as you guys but I do give it a regular go so this hotel sounds like – EVEN for me – to be a terrific find as well as priced
incredibly against other Manhattan locations. The cool thing was the 15 workout channels in-room.

    1. Even if you aren’t a fitness buff (though hey, if you exercise regularly, you’re doing pretty well 🙂 seeing that yoga ball and mat in the morning just makes you want to start your day with a nice stretch. Plus, you’re right, it’s a crazy deal for a cool hotel (or any hotel) in Times Square!
