January 22, 2022 marked TEN YEARS since we left on our HoneyTrek. It was supposed to be a one-year honeymoon to check off everything on our bucket list, but we quickly realized that’s not what it was about. It is about getting off that track, connecting with locals, and finding (and creating) the good in the world. 3,650 days, 63 countries, and 7 continents later, that still holds true, and our drive to explore is just as strong. That said, it has been a WILD ride and not without its ups and downs…like that time we slept in the Rio de Janiero bus station during the madness of Carnaval, or when our camper broke down in Canada and it took 4 days by ferry to reach a mechanic, or when a mouse chewed through our luggage in Thailand. Some days, we don’t know how we keep going without a homebase to retreat to, but one thing we do know is that we couldn’t have done this without the support of our HoneyTrek family–at home, on the road, and online. Thank you so much for cheering us on for the last 10 years and helping us chase our dreams!
To commemorate our decade on honeymoon and all the incredible places, people, and experiences that have touched our lives in the process, we took on the massive task of turning 10-years worth of videos into a 7-minute highlight reel. It took us a solid month to edit down thousands of videos and (with the help of an incredible editor) finesse our 300 best clips into something that told our story. Starting with leaving our home in New York City and flying into the wilds of the Amazon jungle, like the two clueless city kids we were, you see our struggles and triumphs as we move from South America, Africa, Asia, Oceania, Europe, The Middle East, Central America, The Caribbean, Antarctica to North America.
Each region is packed with gorgeous scenery, historic architecture, diverse wildlife, big adventures, and colorful characters. To get between them, there was no flying first-class, we took every mode of transportation imaginable–chicken buses, dhow boats, Victorian trains, bush planes, and banana trucks. Our lodging, well, that ranged from 5-star hotels to 15-person dorms. We even worked for room and board, mucking barn stalls and scraping barnacles off the bottom of boats, if it meant we could stay a little longer in the places we loved. The diversity of experiences made us appreciate the high and the low, and realize that there is no such thing as a misadventure. Travel has taught us to keep an open mind and an open heart, and the kindness we’ve received in return humbles us every day. Like Chan who took the bus 40 minutes in the wrong direction to make sure we made it to our stop in Beijing, or Todd the renegade mechanic who stayed up tinkering with the camper all night to help us get back on the road, or Eva the Polish farmer who took us in for five days during the height of the pandemic to keep us warm, fed, and loved. Every culture we’ve encountered has been uniquely different, but we all have more in common than you’d think.
We can’t wait to hear what you think of this video and the scenes you love most. If there are any locations/people/activities you want to know more about, just drop a comment with the time & description of the clip, and we’ll reply with the deets. Traveling full-time for the past decade has been the greatest experience of our lives and we hope this video offers a bit of inspiration for a journey of your own.
What a great way to celebrate your travels over the years. I can totally understand how it was hard to not keep going from one adventure to the next. You have had such varied experiences along the way. I wonder what is left on your bucket list?
Amazing video with beautiful shots. Must have been difficult to decide which scenes go into the video. You had so many adventures over the last years. Keep travelling!
soooo difficult to narrow these clips down, not to mention we barely took video in the first few years so there are far more wonderful places that we wish we could have shown. at least we’ve blogged about the majority : ) Thanks for the love!
Your honeymoon adventure is never ending! I can’t believe you’ve been doing this for 10 years, you are couple travel goals for me. A well made video, I loved it!
Couples goals lol. Live the life you love, with the one you love…that’s our motto 🙂 so glad you enjoyed the video!!
What an incredible 10 years! How special to have a video that highlights so many special moments, it must have been such a task to condense it into just 7 minutes. You really look like you’ve embraced every experience. I think one thing that shines through is how friendly strangers can be.
Laura…this video was a task for sure, but if nothing else we’ll treasure it and all its memories forever. It’s amazing how many good and almost forgotten) memories back to us in the editing process. And you are absolutely right…the kindness of strangers is the true magic of travel!
What an amazing story!!!!! The video is so well done and it’s crazy to think how you’ve been on the road for so long. You should definitely turn it into a TikTok series. It would go VIRAL! Also, looks like you’ve been to Alberta too. Hope you enjoyed Canada and come visit us again!
Thanks Jas! It has been a crazy journey…and yes, we’ve been all over Canada–love your country!
Wow. I am speechless, and so happy to celebrate 10 years with you! I couldn’t begin to choose my favorite places from the list (although I will admit, I’m partial to the beautiful aqua waters of the Caribbean)! You guys have lived the magic of 100 lifetimes in ten short years. It’s so inspiring! Keep on keepin’ on! <3
Thanks, Jackie! The Caribbean always dazzles us too 🙂
Your honeymoon adventure is mind-boggling and hard to capture in few words. From skydiving to river rafting to blending with the locals and their culture…it’s truly amazing. Congratulations on your achievement of traveling across 62 countries and still counting.
